12 business in Newark and Sherwood have been awarded a share of £100,000 through the latest round of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) Business Growth and Productivity Grant Scheme, supporting more than £648,000 of total business investment across the district.

The grants, which ranged from £2,500 to £10,000, were designed to help small and micro enterprises introduce new products and services, increase productivity, adopt new technologies, and improve environmental sustainability.

The investment is expected to create more than 20 new jobs and support the introduction of around 40 new-to-firm products, services, technologies or processes, helping businesses to grow and diversify. Funded activities included digital improvements such as new business management systems, diversification into new technologies, and the purchase of equipment to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

Among the successful applicants, Gudrum Classics Ltd, an established Newark-based online retailer, received £9,840 to implement a new Customer Relationship Management system and launched a dedicated sauna ecommerce platform, supporting improvements to customer service and contributing to the creation of up to two new roles. Great British Sports Cars Ltd, a leading niche automotive manufacturer, was awarded £3,399 to purchase specialist technical equipment, enabling the business to streamline operations, expand its services, increase revenue potential and support skills development for staff and apprentices. Funding has also supported Big Dish Energy, a hospitality business, to purchase equipment to diversify its offer and enable it to serve customers outdoors and at events.

Grant awards have contributed to strengthening the district’s engineering and manufacturing sector and improving sustainability, key priorities of the Council’s Economic Growth Strategy.

Councillor Claire Penny, Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Economic Growth at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “This funding is helping companies across Newark and Sherwood to innovate, become more efficient and create new jobs. It’s fantastic to see such a diverse range of businesses investing in their future, and we’re proud to play a part in their growth and success. “

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund provides local investment until March 2026. Since 2022, Newark and Sherwood District Council has been allocated over £1m of funding through the scheme by the UK Government, supporting 74 local businesses. Funding was distributed by the East Midlands Combined County Authority, with a range of grants aimed at supporting local businesses, rural communities, and skills development within the district.
