Update regarding condition of White Swan public house
Posted on: Thursday, February 12, 2026The District Council is aware of the deterioration of The White Swan Public House in Newark and our teams have taken action against the building owners in an effort to see improvements to the building.
In January 2025, a Section 215 Notice was issued under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990. The Notice required a range of works to the exterior of the building, which sits prominently within the Newark Conservation Area. The Notice required the works to be completed by August 2025.
Disappointingly, the Notice was not complied with, and the building has continued to deteriorate in that time.
As a result, the owners of the property were summoned to Nottingham Magistrates Court on the 26 January 2026. The two defendants were found guilty and fined a total of £2,180 each including the Council’s legal costs and victim surcharge.
We are still pushing for the outstanding notice to be complied with, and we are keen to work with the building owners to resolve this.
