Housing needs
The Council, as strategic housing authority, has a statutory requirement to undertake regular assessments of future housing requirements within the district. We commissioned Arc4 to undertake a district-wide housing needs assessment (HNA) in 2020.

The study provides an evidence base for the local development framework (LDF). The HNA is used by the Council to support decision-making for investment and planning applications and to support housing and planning strategies.
Parish housing needs studies
To complement the district-wide survey, we‘ve undertaken a programme of parish housing needs surveys and analyses.
These support and inform our housing strategy and decision-making process in providing new affordable housing.

Gypsy and Traveller call for sites
The Council has a new Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (Feb 2020) (PDF File, 2,029kb), which shows how many new pitches need to be provided up to 2033. To help meet the accommodation needs of the district's Gypsy and Traveller communities, the Council is looking to allocate sites through the review of its Allocations & Development Management DPD.
As part of this we are now asking landowners to put forward land that they think is suitable for this use. Submitting a site is not the same as applying for planning permission, but any sites which are submitted will be assessed for their suitability and help the Council to make decisions over where to allocate. Planning permission would still need to be applied for, but if a site is allocated then it has been identified as acceptable for the use in principle. If you have submitted land to a previous call for sites then it is not necessary to do this again.
Sites can be submitted by completing and returning the Site Submission Form [297kb]. You will also need to submit a map showing where the site is and what land it includes.
The submissions can be returned by email to planningpolicy@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk or by post to:
Planning Policy and Infrastructure Business Unit, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Castle House, Great North Road, Newark, NG24 1BY.
You can also submit in person by making an appointment to visit Castle House by calling 01636 650000.
We would like to hear from all potential landowners, so if you are having difficulty making a site submission, or have any questions, please contact Planning Policy by emailing planningpolicy@newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk or calling 01636 650000 and we will be able to help you.
